Community Recovery Fund Helps More Groups

TAMESIDE Community Recovery Fund enjoyed another highly successful event on Saturday with more than £15,000 distributed among community groups from the council’s west neighbourhood area which comprises Audenshaw, Denton and Droylsden.

Held at St George’s Church, Windmill Lane, Denton, the meeting was attended by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Janet Cooper, and her Consort, Mr Dennis Fitzpatrick. Both stayed for the entire afternoon and were fully involved in proceedings.

The successful groups were:

Assheton Avenue Residents Group, Audenshaw: £610 for a replacement greenhouse.

Denton Autism: £1,992 to support parents and carers.

Denton Bowling Club: £2,000 for general renovation and to start petanque sessions.

Friends of Sunnybank Vale, Droylsden: £2,000 to improve duck trail footpaths.

Friends of Victoria Park: £2,000 to fund a party in the park for the community.

Magical Memories project, Haughton Green: £300 to stage a jubilee tea party.

St Martin’s Church, Droylsden: £2,000 to establish a community green space.

St Mary’s Church, Droylsden: £1,487 to reduce loneliness in the neighbourhood and restore some pride. 

Tameside Arts, Denton: £919 for a tutor and equipment for IT workshops.

Victoria Park Community Centre, Denton: £1,846 to organise activities and provide hot meals through the luncheon club.

Community cohesion officer Terry Finn, from Tameside Council’s community safety team, said: “It was another really successful day at a great venue. I’d like to thank all the fabulous volunteers who made the day go so well.

“Two local neighbourhood police sergeants attended and something one of them said really stuck with me – ‘I’ve not just had the best day since I joined the neighbourhood but one of the best of my career. The groups were amazing. I’m absolutely buzzing from all that’.

“I must also thank my community safety team colleague Sharron Power who was integral to the success of the event by using her local knowledge to support and encourage bidders before the event and on the day itself. Similarly, Action Together provided administrative support that was crucial to making the afternoon such a success.”

Two sessions remain, both of which are open to everyone.

Saturday, June 11, east neighbourhood (Dukinfield, Mossley and Stalybridge): The Together Centre, Birch Lane, Dukinfield, (2 to 5pm).

Saturday, June 18, South neighbourhood (Hyde and Longdendale): The Meeting Point, St Barnabas’s Church, Hattersley, (noon to 4pm).
